Philidor ![]() Music of Debussy - Ravel - Takemitsu “If there is magic on the Earth, it is contained in water.” – anthropologist Leon Eiseley Nowhere is this more apparent than at the coast. CMW draws on traditions and cultures from around the world to create a magical musical “celebration of water.” The riveting Philidor Percussion Group joins champion flutist Debra Reuter-Pivetta and pianist Barbara McKenzie to create a spellbinding evening of “water music”. Alexander String Quartet Music of Beethoven - John Adams - Ravel Having celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2006, the Alexander String Quartet continues to perform regularly in the major music capitals of four continents, securing its standing among the world’s premier ensembles. Alexander Quartet, highly praised for their radiant Beethoven interpretations, brings Beethoven’s personal favorite, the monumental Quartet in C-sharp minor, Op. 131 to CMW’s stage. Also featured on their program, the toe tapping music of Carnegie Hall Composer in Residence, John Adams, and the unequaled quartet for strings by Maurice Ravel. Eric Pritchard Music of Beethoven- Fauré - Robinson A recital dedicated to Spring. Eric Pritchard, passionate first violinist of the acclaimed Ciompi Quartet and Fischoff competition winner, joins pianist Barbara McKenzie to perform Beethoven’s much loved Sonata Opus 24, “Spring Sonata,” the refreshing, ever popular A Major Sonata by Fauré, along with a special world premier by NC composer Bill Robinson. Carolina Piano Trio Music of John Corigliano - Schumann Chamber Music Wilmington’s captivating resident ensemble performs the music of John Corigliano, Oscar winning composer of the film score for The Red Violin. The program begins with Corigliano’s “Fancy on a Bach Air” for solo cello, based on the notable melody of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, followed by the “Fantasia On An Ostinato” composed for the seventh Van Cliburn Competition.
