Gaubert VIVANT!

This international performance project intends to bring the life, music, and times of French Maestro, Flutist and Composer, Phillippe Gaubert to Music Shcools & Conservatories in Universities and Colleges around the USA. This will include an exhibit of selected manuscripts, a video interview of his heir, Yvette Poiree-Gaubert, a newly published biography, photos, correspondance with celebrated musicians of his time including Ravel, Valery, Cortot, Thibeault, and others.

American Flutists know Philippe Gaubert as the famed French compser. He was also conductor of the Paris Opera for over 20 years and a brilliant performer, creating many perfomances with famed musicians of his day including ravel with whom he gave his last performance on the famed Louis Lot flute. In addition he is credited by many as founder, along with his teacher Paul Tafanel, of the modern French School of Flute Playing.

Philippe GAUBERT's brilliant career will be traced in music and also through an exhibition held in conjunction with the concerts.- Original documents concerning the life and period of the master will be exhibited. Manuscripts of his workds, pre-publication work, correspondence and unpublished photographs will be on show to the public for these three exceptional recitals.

- Madame Yvette POIRE-GAUBERT, a direct witness of the master’s life, will delve into her memories of the man who was her adored step-father, her “Parrain’’ (Godfather), not for once as the wife of the greatest French film producer Alain Poiré, but as the living memory of a prestigious period of French artistic creation, rubbing shoulders with Ravel, Dukas, Enesco, Strauss, Valery, Giraudoux, Guitry, Lifar and more.

The Franco-American duo, Nicolas DUCHAMP and Barbara McKENZIE, will be performing compositions by Gaubert as part of this project. The Gaubert family has entrusted Mr. Duchamp with the newly restored, solid silver Louis Lot flute dating from 1874 which the master used to play, for the performance of these concerts.

They will be recording the entire works for flute and piano performed on the composer’s flute, reviving one of the greatest actors of French artistic life of the beginning of the twentieth century.

During his busy creative life, Philippe GAUBERT never had time to go to the United States. It’s a good bet that Nicolas DUCHAMP and Barbara McKENZIE will do honour to his memory across the Atlantic in the coming months…

GAUBERT VIVANT! is sponsored by Yvette Poire-Gaubert and the extended family Poiret, CAP MUSIQUE International SARL Paris, www.canalculture.com

Chamber Music Wilmington/UNCW and many private donors and corporate sponsors soon to be announced.
